Holey Letters

Play Video

Activity

  • Using a skewer to make letters in cardboard

Which skills are developed?

  • Pre-writing patterns – the directions of top to bottom, left to right and anti-clockwise that form letters and numbers

What you’ll need

  • Skewers
  • Paper (with the letters drawn on)
  • Tea towel
  • Torch (if shining light through the letters in a dark room)

Details

  • Encourage your little one to use their pincer grip (moving the thumb to the pointer/2nd finger) while holding the skewer and poking the holes in the paper
  • It’s also a great idea to reinforce the pre-writing patterns of top to bottom, left to right and anti-clockwise through verbal (spoken) cues
